Sistas’ Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue at Jefferson Avenue (where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is a Weapon), presents Billy Bang’s Quintet featuring Ted Daniel on trumpet, pianist Andrew Bemkey, bassist Hill Greene, and drummer Newman Taylor Baker, Saturday, April 24, showtimes at 9 and 10:30pm.
The Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival at Sistas’ Place continues with one of the giants and living legends of the music. This will be violinist, bandleader, composer Billy Bang’s first performance in many months with the band he has been using for the last several years. On the front line with him is another legend of the loft years, Ted Daniel, who certainly has his own story to tell. The rhythm section is equally solid led by the master percussionist Newman Taylor Baker with the indefagitable Hill Greene and the creative imput of Andrew Bemkey. Need we say more?
